(The verse chords came about in 2005 when I was in Chile, so I thought it would only be appropriate if I wrote the lyrics about that same trip. The first part of the song is a true story of how our tour van broke down and we were trapped on the train tracks in the middle of the beautifully mysterious Atacama desert with hieroglyphs all over the hills. The rest of it is based on an old legend of the desert about the Alicanto bird which hides gold in a cave. Miners would follow the bird in seek of riches but if the bird knew that it was being followed it would lead the miners off a cliff.)
lyrics
trapped on the path of a train
that's long abandoned its name
the desert wastes no time
in bleeding everything dry
hills where hieroglyphics lay
they seem to point the way
a symbol starts to rise
a bird with shining eyes
lead us home
we've no need for silver or gold
lead us on
forever follow your song
high above the sun and the moon
we hear the guiding tune
now we're under your wing
will you take us to the brink?
lead us home
we've no need for silver or gold
lead us on
forever follow your song
